MITSUBISHI is lifting the wraps on the third generation of its mid-size crossover the Outlander at next month's Geneva Motor Show.

Similar in size to the current car, the latest Outlander comes with the aim of target emissions below 130g/km plus advanced safety features like Forward Collision Mitigation, a Lane Departure Warning system and Active Cruise Control.

There will also be the likes of power tailgate, full third row seating, tilt and telescopic steering column and Super-HiD wide vision xenon headlamps.

From the Outlander's late summer launch there will be a choice of 2.0-litre petrol or 2.2 diesel engines, Auto Stop & Go and a new six-speed automatic gearbox.

As part of its novel technical package, the Mitsubishi will also be equipped with an “eco-friendly driving system” that notifies the driver of maximum efficiency.

Mitsubishi says that from next year there will be an EV-based plug-In hybrid powertrain which, when fitted to the Outlander, will allow for low CO2 emissions and a range similar to that of the PX-MiEV II concept – in other words over 800km and a target of below 50g/km.
